Halloween is my absolute most favorite holiday of all time. And I’m not talking about the cutesy little witches and sexy nurse versions of Halloween. I’m talking about the supernatural, mysterious, terrifying version of Halloween. The Halloween that makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck. And I’ve felt this way about it since I was a kid.
I still remember the very first scary movie I watched — Pet Sematary. Given how young I was, I’m pretty sure my mom would’ve been pissed if she’d known my brother was exposing me to the demented world of Stephen King. Especially when Rob had his own grand plans of scratching on my door late at night, moaning in a raspy voice, “Raaaaaaaachelll…… Raaaaaaaaaaachel!” Oh, yeah. You know the scene.
I was afraid at the time, but I was also hooked. Every year, as the weather starts to cool and the leaves begin to change, I start making my Halloween plans. I search for the best haunted houses in the area, and I start planning my costume. Fortunately, I married a man that loves the holiday just as much as I do. In September of last year, we bought our first house with a full yard. Within a week, we were putting up decorations, both store-bought and handmade. Our neighbors might have though we were a little crazy, but we soon found out that our neighborhood gets about 600 trick-or-treaters a year. We were the most popular house on the block!
Halloween 2015 — My first attempt at video editing.
Now that Halloween is again right around the corner, we have no choice but to try and up the ante. So the weekend that Spirit Halloween opened, brand spanking new camera in hand, we went on the hunt for new decorations and inspiration to make our haunted yard even better than before.
As you can see, we went a little overboard. Part 2 is coming soon and will include the making of some cemetery props. Part 3 probably won’t get posted until after Halloween is over, but my goal is to film another horror-esque type video like I did last year. I promise to set up a tripod this time so it’s not so damn shaky!
